Magnesium and Your Fertility Levels
Are you Magnesium deficient? Many doctors are now testing for Vitamin D levels as well as hormonal levels, but how many people out there are walking around with Magnesium deficiency and don’t know it? Magnesium effects not only our overall health, but our hormones (especially fertility related hormones that are so necessary to conceive), thyroid health, GI health and mental health! If one or any of these systems is in dysfunction, then one’s overall fertility report card may decrease, depending on the severity of the deficiency.
Not only does Magnesium effect blood sugar and adrenal health, but it also effects cortisol, which is tied to stress levels and overall hormonal balance. Magnesium also has an effect on insulin and blood sugar levels, and may help to reduce sugar cravings (if you’re like one of us with a sweet tooth), making it especially great for those with elevated BMI (body mass index), diabetes and ovarian cysts or PCOS. Magnesium seems to have a regulating effect on multiples systems at once, having a positive effect on sleep (great for insomnia, anxiety and meditation) as well as the thyroid.
If you are experiencing bloating, constipation, anxiety or depression, PMS, muscle spasms or headaches, these may be signs of magnesium deficiency. You can get more magnesium naturally by staying hydrated and avoiding carbonated beverages, an also with fish, dark (cooked) leafy greens, sunflower seeds and even chocolate. Overall anti-inflammatory and hormone balancing properties make this an ideal supplement to add into your regimen if you and your doctor find that you are deficient in magnesium and other minerals.
